Learn to Appreciate

Beautiful, bright sunny days, clear blue skies, rich green grass, cool breezes and birds singing happily create a sense of ease and comfort around us. Could nature feel any better? Could our Almighty’s creations even be doubted for a second?

As I sit in the bus, I look out the window and focus on all those particulars that our creator has gifted us with time and time again. At times, I don’t think we are grateful enough. We take these gifts for granted because we know we have them and they are just there as a part of our lives. However, we tend to forget that our creator that has given us all this, is the same creator that has the ability to take it all away instantaneously. The Tsunami, Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Ophelia have been living proofs so far. What we may have one day, may not be the same the next day so we should always be more than thankful to God each and every moment of our lives.

When I look at God’s creations, I smile and say a little prayer in my heart to thank God for all that he has given us; even those little things in life that we have, but do not give enough importance to.

We should also not forget to thank God for providing us with good health. For each morning, we open our eyes to a fresh new day we should be grateful for being able to look around and appreciate the good things in life. For this opportunity is unavailable to everyone. It boggles my mind to think of those blind individuals. The less fortunate who are unable to do all the things that we as normal individuals can do.

I recall one day, as I placed my hands over my eyes and then slowly opened them all I could see was darkness. Imagine for a few minutes that, that was all we could see, no color, no light, no images, no objects only darkness. What could be more frightening then that? Nothing! And again I am thankful to God for the sight he has granted me and allowed me to again appreciate the good things in life. As I take a glance at one particular team manager/supervisor in the office who happens to be blind by birth, he deserves so much credit and recognition to be able to manage at least 23 members on his team so professionally and with utmost dedication and determination.

Although God has taken something so valuable away from him, in lieu of that he has showered him with a different talent and strength that I don’t even think I could ever have.

Just remember one thing, if for any moment in your lives, you feel that your life is falling apart and nothing seems to be going right or you lack something in yourself, just imagine and realize that it could be much worse than just that.

Always be grateful for what you have and learn to appreciate others because the other person may not be as fortunate as you or I.
